What happened

distinct is computed with the engine's cardinality aggregation, a HyperLogLog++ estimate sent with the largest precision_threshold the engines accept (40,000). Below it the count is near-exact; at or past it the error grows, so a figure that large is named as an estimate rather than shown as a count.

The fix

Where an exact count matters, route that statistic to the grid with an aggregates.overrides entry of 'client' on the source, or accept the estimate.
