What happened

pivotView: true needs at least one dimension on some axis; with none it would be a single grand cell, which the totals row already shows. The body is left empty.

The fix

Put a column on the pivot (its pivot setting, or pivotBy in the query) and group by a column for the rows.

The smallest fix

createGrid(el, { pivotView: true, groupBy: ['region'], pivotBy: ['year'] });
