What happened

options.position says which column(s) place a row - { lon, lat } or { geometry } - and the binding needs them to fetch the rows in deck's view and to write its viewport filter. It was missing, named neither shape, or named a column the grid does not have (the reason says which). Nothing was bound.

The fix

Name the grid's own columns: position: { lon: 'lon', lat: 'lat' } or position: { geometry: 'place' }.

The smallest fix

bindDeck(grid, { deck, layers, position: { geometry: 'place' } });
