What happened

zoom.axes on a heatmap named y or xy. A heatmap's columns are a band of categories like a bar chart's and zoom to a contiguous run of them; its rows are its series, another band, with no measure axis to narrow. The zoom was added on the columns rather than dropped.

The fix

Leave zoom.axes at its default, 'x', on a heatmap.

The smallest fix
