What happened

The drawing rail anchors every mark in the chart's own data coordinates, and on a map (markermap, bubblemap, choropleth) that means an invertible pair of longitude/latitude scales. Only mercator and equirectangular are conformal enough to give one - the others (equalEarth, robinson, the conics) bend a meridian, so no straight-line scale describes them - and rather than build a rail that could never place a drag, none is added.

The fix

Draw the map through projection: 'mercator' or projection: 'equirectangular' to take the drawing rail.
