What happened

A banded axis (a category axis's rotated labels, or the upright band labels down the side) shrank its label font toward the --lattice-chart-tick-min floor to try to draw every band without hiding any, and even the floor was still wider than a band. The axis fell back to showing every nth label instead, and this is that fallback, reported once - which bands are shown is otherwise indistinguishable from a caller's own every.

The fix

Give the axis more room, lower --lattice-chart-tick-min, or set axis.x.every/axis.y.every yourself to choose exactly which labels are kept.
