What happened
A banded axis (a category axis's rotated labels, or the upright band labels down the side) was given an explicit axis.x.every/axis.y.every at least as long as the axis's own band count, so the stride can never land on a second band and only the first is ever drawn. Unlike ordinary responsive thinning - which a narrow pane forces and which never warns, because the hidden categories are still named in full in the chart's accessible table - this outcome is fixed by the number itself, not by the plot's size, so no amount of room fixes it. Reported once.
The fix
Lower axis.x.every/axis.y.every below the number of bands, or drop it entirely to let the axis choose a stride that fits.
The smallest fix
createChart({ grid, container, type: 'heatmap', axis: { y: { every: 100 } } });
