What happened

spec.aggregate: 'engine' asked the grid's pushdown source to compute the chart's figures, and the source could not: no group capability, an unpushed filter or quick search, a column the engine cannot name, or a reduction its aggregates config keeps client-side. The chart is never silently swapped to the window's rows without saying so - this is that saying.

The fix

Read the reason in the message (and in chart.provenance().reason); it names what stopped the push. Either fix that - widen the adapter, route the statistic to the engine - or use aggregate: 'auto' so the chart falls back on its own rather than refusing.
