What happened
The value could not be encoded under the requested symbology - it failed a length rule, a character-set rule or a check digit - so nothing was drawn. A barcode that scanned to the wrong thing would be worse than no barcode at all, so the cell shows a placeholder and the column warns once rather than printing a best-effort guess.
The fix
Fix the value, or switch to a symbology that accepts it - a plain numeric id usually belongs on Code 39 or Code 128 rather than EAN/UPC, which are fixed-length with a mandatory check digit.
