AG Studio Alternative: Lattice Designer vs AG Studio
Last updated 7 October 2026
Both put a dashboard builder inside your own application, so your users can make the report they need without a developer ticket. This page sets them side by side. Every statement about AG Studio is linked to the page of its public documentation it came from, and the date we read it, so you can check us.

Where AG Studio is ahead
We would rather you heard this from us than found it out on day three of an evaluation. On what its documentation describes today, AG Studio is ahead on: frameworks, widget range, calculated fields, filters, ai assistance, accessibility, theming, translations, print and pdf layout, custom widgets. It also publishes a roadmap with items in progress17. If a visual expression editor, page filters and filter widgets, or a framework quick start are what decide it for you, start with AG Studio.
Where the Lattice Designer is ahead
The Lattice Designer is ahead on: maps and statistics widgets, derived grids, very large data, config routed from a data feed. These come from what sits underneath it: maps and charts from the same grid rows, the statistics layer, derived grids, the data router and the pushdown adapters. If your reports need those, or need to run over data that never reaches the browser, that is where it earns its place.
Feature by feature
| Capability | AG Studio, from its documentation | Lattice Designer | Ahead |
|---|---|---|---|
| Edit and view modes | Two modes: edit to build, view to present with the editing controls hidden. 2 | Edit and view modes, switched live. View mode hides every editing control. | Level |
| Frameworks | Quick starts for React, Angular, Vue and plain JavaScript. 1 | Plain JavaScript, in any page, with no framework required. | AG Studio |
| Widget range | A catalogue of 36 widgets in 14 groups, including pivot tables, gauges, funnels, treemaps, sunbursts, radar and combination charts, plus list, button and date filter widgets. 3 | Grids, KPI tiles, notes and every chart type the charts module and its add-ons provide, switchable from the properties panel. | AG Studio |
| Maps and statistics widgets | The catalogue lists no map widget and no statistics widget. 3 | Map widgets, and six statistics widgets: column profile, distribution, correlation, group comparison, forecast and model error. | Lattice Designer |
| Several sources with relationships | Several tables, with relationships between them so fields from different tables can share a widget. 4 | Several sources with declared relationships (many-to-one, one-to-many, one-to-one), shown in the data panel. | Level |
| Derived grids | The documentation we read describes pivot tables and calculated fields, not a step-by-step derived grid built from another grid. 3, 5 | Filter, group, pivot, join, sort and top-N steps that follow their parent live, with a lineage line and one undo per step. | Lattice Designer |
| Calculated fields | Report users create calculated columns and measures in a visual expression editor with autocomplete. 5, 17 | Guardrails can allow or refuse calculated fields. The reference does not describe an editor for writing them. | AG Studio |
| Undo and redo | Undo and redo for edit actions, a history of 100 changes by default, and a history API. 6 | Every change is one undo step, 100 steps by default, with Ctrl or Cmd+Z scoped to the designer. | Level |
| Filters | Page filters, widget filters, rank filters, cross-filtering and on-canvas filter widgets. 7 | A table’s own filters narrow the charts and tiles reading it. The reference does not describe a page filter panel or filter widgets. | AG Studio |
| Multi-page reports | Reports hold several pages, with the selected page kept in the saved state. 1, 18 | Pages with titles, a page tab strip, and the selected page kept in the saved state. | Level |
| Saved state | getState and setState, with a state event on every change. 18 | getState and setState, a state event on every change, and saved states from older versions migrated on load. | Level |
| Very large data | You write a custom engine that translates each query for your backend. Server-side aggregation and pagination are listed as shipped. 8, 17 | Pushdown sources for DuckDB, ClickHouse, Elasticsearch, OData and REST ship with the grid, and a derived grid reports which engine ran which step. | Lattice Designer |
| AI assistance | A chat panel with threads and a set of cooperating agents, over a model you connect. Nothing is sent to an AG Grid service. 9, 10 | An assist box that asks your model through your callback and shows the result as a preview you accept or reject. No chat threads or agents. | AG Studio |
| Accessibility | Targets WCAG 2.1 AA, with keyboard equivalents for dragging, and states testing with JAWS and VoiceOver. 11 | Full keyboard operation, a live region for announcements and contrast targets documented. The reference does not name a screen reader test matrix. | AG Studio |
| Theming | A visual Theme Builder, light, dark and dark-blue modes, and a high contrast preset. 11, 12 | Light, dark, high contrast and automatic themes, plus four design-system presets that restyle the designer as they restyle a grid. No visual theme builder. | AG Studio |
| Translations | Ships translations of the interface into many languages. 13 | The designer’s own text is in English, with a message catalogue you can supply. | AG Studio |
| Print and PDF layout | A documented print layout sized to a paper format. 14 | The designer reference does not describe a print layout. | AG Studio |
| Custom widgets | A documented way to add widget types of your own. 15, 17 | A new chart type registered with the charts module appears in the properties panel with no change to the designer. | AG Studio |
| Config routed from a data feed | Not described in the documentation we read. 1, 18 | Dashboard config can arrive through the data router and be applied widget by widget; an author’s own edits leave as config rows. | Lattice Designer |
| Licensing | Pricing is set for each deployment. A 45-day trial with no watermark is offered. 1, 16 | See our pricing page. | Not compared |
A row that says the Lattice Designer reference does not describe something is a statement about our documentation, not about what an application built on the grid can do.

Try both on your own data
The Lattice Designer runs in your browser on the Designer page, and the guide takes you from an empty element to a saved dashboard in five minutes. The comparison that counts is a real report over your own tables, built by the person who will use it.
Common questions
Is the Lattice Designer an alternative to AG Studio?
Both are embedded dashboard builders. AG Studio is ahead on frameworks, calculated fields, filters, translations and print layout. The Lattice Designer is ahead on maps, statistics widgets, derived grids and very large data. Read the table, then try both on your own data.
Does the Lattice Designer work with React, Angular or Vue?
It is a plain JavaScript module that mounts on an element, so it runs in any page. AG Studio publishes quick starts for React, Angular and Vue; the Lattice Designer does not.
